Budget Seminar - 2007 November
The Annual Budget Seminar was held at the Taj Samudra on 9th November
2007 amidst a large gathering of people. The keynote speaker was Dr.P.B.Jayasundera, secretary to the ministry of Finance
and Planning. Other speakers were Mrs.Lakmali Nanayakkara, Parter, Ernst & Young, Mr.N.R.Gajendran, Partner, Gajma &
Co., Mr.Neomal Goonawardena, Nithya Partners, Dr.P.N.Weerasinghe, Director, Economic Research Department, Central bank of
Sri Lanka and Mrs.Dhammika Gunathilaka, Deputy commissioner, Dept. of Inland Revenue.
Death Announcement
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden demise of our dear colleague Mano Navaratnarajah,
Deputy President of CMBAAA 20062007.
Mano has cotributed tremendously to the association activities from its inception.
The cremation took place at Kanatte on
2nd July 2007. A large fathering of relations and friends attended the funeral.

7th Annual General Meeting of the CMBAAA
The above event was held on 9th July 2004 at TransAsia, Earl's Court amidst a large gathering of Members.
A new Executive Committee was appointed for the year 2004/2005 headed by Kalyani Rodrigo as the new president. The Guest of
Honour CMBAAA alumnus Hiran Mendis, Director General of the Colombo Stock Exchange delivered an informative lecture
on the evolving role of key players in the stock market. The event was followed by cocktails and fellowship.
The Annual Fellowship Dinner 2003 of the Association was held on 31st October
2003 at the Taj Samudra Crystal Ball Room. The chief guest ws Mrs.Sumithra Moonesinghe, Chairman, Bank of Ceylon. The guest
of honour was Prof. Thilak Hettiarachchi, Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo. The occasion was also graced by the Dean
of the Faculty of Management and Finance Mr.Pradeep Randivela and Dr.Fazeela Ahsan. Over 100 MBA graduates participated
in the event. The highlights of the event included the very informative and an enlightening speech delivered by the chief
guest.

Ltd., former President CIMA Sri Lanka Branch on 25th September 2003 at the Faculty of Management and Finance. Over 100
MBA students and members participated at this event

AGM of the CMBAAA
The 6th Annual General Meeting was held on 4th
July 2003 at Cats Eye ballroom, Ceylon Continental Hotel, at 6.30 PM. This event which was well attended by over 65 MBAs was
a great success. One of the special features of this event was a guest speech
by Colombo MBA alumnus, Ravi Fernando, CEO, MAS Branding and Retailing, on Developing Global Brands was highly impressive
and appreciated by the gathering. The outgoing President, Mr. Chris Corea in his speech outlined the steady progress
of the association during the past year and also spoke about a host of activities that took place in the year under review.
The newly elected President, Mr.Neil De Mel, spoke about the way ahead and vowed to take the theme Building A Mind Network
forward along with the concept of Mind Spring, which is aimed at bringing the members together in an endeavour to achieve
the CMBAAA Mission.

Seminar
on the National Budget-2008
For
the seventh consecutive year a seminar to discuss the implications and impact of the national budget 2009 was held on 7th
November 2008, the day after the National Budget. It had a full house in attendance at the Cats Eye Ballroom of Ceylon
Continental Hotel, Colombo 1.
The
panel of speakers was lead by Mr.R.A. Jayatissa, Deputy Secretary to the Treasury, Ministry of Finance & Planning. Other distinguished speakers making presentations
were Ms Lakmali Nanayakkara, Partner Ernst & Young, Mr. N.R. Gajendran,
Partner Gajma & Co., Dr. Anila Dias Bandaranaike, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank. Mrs. Kalyani
Dhahanayaka, Commissioner , Corporate Tax Unit and Mr. K.U Abeyratna
, Deputy –Commissioner , Large Tax Payer Unit.
After
each presentation by the speakers, seminar participants were afforded the opportunity to ask their own questions and clarify
any doubts from a panel headed by Mr.S.R.Attygalle, Director General, Fiscal Policy
Department of the Ministry of Finance and Plan Implementation, who was involved in the budget policy formulation.
The
seminar was targeted at the Sri Lankan business community and the audience comprised of Senior Managers and CEO’s from
both public and private sector companies. This year too we had a very formidable line up of presenters and a panel made up
of high ranking government officials from the Ministry, the Central Bank, Department of Inland Revenue, reputed Tax Consultants
and Accountants. The project was chaired by Hemantha de Silva.

Annual General Meeting of the CMBAAA was held on 07th July 2006 at the Taj Samudra Hotel. Rohan Seneviratne
incoming President was handed over the mantle by outgoing President Prasad Jayasuriya on this occasion. The Guest of Honour
was Colombo MBA Alumnus CEO of Ellawala Exports(Pvt) Limited, Chanaka Ellawala
who delivered an inspiring speech on
Members were able to renew old freindships and enjoy themselves at the cocktailsthat followed the AGM.
Beyond Traditional Boundaries 2006
Annual Management Conference of CMBAAA

On March 1st 2006, CMBAAA presented its Annual Conference on the theme "Beyond
Traditional Boundaries" ith professor Thilak Hettiarachchi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo as the chief guest.
The objective of this conference was to create an environment and business culture in which unfettered thinking would be possible.Often,
businesses are restrained by traditional, conventional thinking which restricts their development.
In Sri Lanka, despite the imperfect business environment over the last couple
of decades, there are many examples of individuals and corporations who have braved the odds and with bold, innovative thinking
entered hitherto untapped markets with unprecedented, and almost unimaginable success.

ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT |

Annual Charitable Event organised by CMBAAA
The charitable event for the year was successfully carried
out at the “Sucharithodaya Samaja Seva
Sangamaya” Children’s Home at Pamunuwa, Maharagama. The boy’s dormitory and another building were
repa inted and ceiling fans installed fulfilling a pressing need at this haven for children from broken families or without
a family, and channeled through the courts. The Sangamaya lead by its Chairman, Mr.Muthubanda does an excellent job of looking
after the inmates and workers numbering some 180 persons, raising its own funds when the grants from the Pradesheeya Sabha
are found wanting.
The opening
ceremony was held on the evening of Saturday 8th April with the Executive Committee of the CMBAAA present. The
representative from Capricorn Traders, Sales
Manager, Mr.Felix Croos was invited to light the traditional oil lamp along with Mr.Muthubanda and office bearers of our Executive
Committee. One of the children from the home proposed a vote of thanks at the end of the ceremony.
The required
paint for the renovations were donated by Lankem Lanka Ltd. It was a joy to see the children who are well trained and disciplined,
looking pleased in their newly renovated accommodation.

Nevard Cabraal addresses the CMBAAA
Mr.Ajith Nevard Cabraal the popular Management Consultant conducted
a workshop on "The management role in the Sri lankan context" on 11th December 2003 at the Faculty of Management and Finance.
CMBAAA organised a one day interactive workshop conducted by Mr.Dhammika Kalapuge on Friday 30th
January, 2004 at "Salon Lilac", Hotel Galadari. Mr.Kalapuge
is a Post Graduate diploma holder of CIM, UK and also a Chartered Marketer of CIM, UK. Mr Kalapuge, a Former Vice President-Marketing at DFCC Bank has also held senior marketing positions at Sampath Bank, Eagle Insurance
and Eagle NDB Fund Management
A large number of individuals
representing a wide cross section of the business sector took part in the program. CMBAAA wishes to thank and extend its appreciation
to the participating organisations.
Latest techniques in developing communication Skills
A Guest Speech by Mr.Neranjan De Silva on Latest Techniques for Developing Effective Communication Skills, organized
by the CMBAAA was held on 23rd of October 2003 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management and Finance of the
University of Colombo. Mr. Neranjan De Silva is a Chartered Engineer by profession. He is the Director/CEO of Metropolitan Computers
(Pvt) Ltd. and a Past President of the Colombo Toast Masters Club and the Computer Society of Sri Lanka..
