The Tsunami has left behind much grief and devastation in our country. What is our responsibility?
This is the question that the members of the CMBAAA asked themselves. We decided to focus on children of the disaster because,
in many ways it is the children who have the most to lose and are most in need of counsel and care.
We have decided to set up a fund for the long term education of children of
the crisis. We intend to identify specific children for support through schools, religious organisations etc. Identification
of a child for support will depend only on need and not on any basis involving race, religion etc. This fund will be
invested, managed and accounted for seperate from the present funds of the association. The interest and a part of the
capital will be disbursed annually ove a period of about five years.
Disburements to recepients will be in kind as far as possible (school books, stationery etc.)
We hope to "adopt" deserving cases and lookafter their educational needs for about five years. Information on the progress
of the children(including pictures) and the accounts of the fund will be disseminated to significant donors annually. If specific
donors are interested, we plan to create direct relationships between donors and specific recepients. We believe that this
would be an additional source of inspiration and hope to the affected children.
A new account has been opened at HNB Main Branch, Colombo 3 to receive donations for
Tsunami disaster relief related work which will be undertaken by CMBAAA. The account is named "COLOMBO MBA ALUMNI
ASSOCIATION TSUNAMI RELIEF FUND" (Account number 005 037 2324) We invite our members to extend their support by contributing
towards this worthy cause.

Members Day which was held on
the 27th of April was a very successful event this year. There were around fifty participants who had a great time.
Some brought along their wives and children as well. The children were entertained on the bouncer and with games. Wives joined
in the fun alongside their husbands. There were a few couples where both were alumni!
Everyone took part in the musical
chairs event and it was a long line of chairs indeed. This was a hotly contested event with lots of action (the MBAs temporarily
forgot themselves). The finalists were all ladies indicating that they are much better at manouvering than the gents! The tug of war event was even
more interesting because both sides were declared winners. The loser was the rope, which broke in the middle such is the strength
of many Colombo MBAs working together. It was quite a spectacular sight to see both teams flat on the ground each team
convinced thathad won due to their superior pulling power.
Games
which followed were Kana Mutty, eye on the elephant and other games. The judges had to perform the very responsible task of
identifying the lady with the longest hair (also the one with the shortest hair). Dancing went on to music of DJ Rajiv. The
baila competition was keenly contested indeed and the skills of three couples in this department were duly acknowledged. Beer was on the house courtesy of Lion
Brewery. Clearly, the CMBAAA members day is going to be a red letter day in the calendars of members in future years.
